I come from a line of healers. Mom says that we’ve only seen the inside of the doctor’s office for few vaccinations and one or two injuries (such as me falling head first onto a sharp rock from about 5-foot height). All of our maladies were taken care of at home with herbs and other random home remedies.

Chris will jokingly say that my “untreated” high fevers killed many a brain cell and I can’t find any evidence to refute him. What are going to do…

The thing is, my parents still swear by their methods. Here are some of them:

High Fever

- Mom would soak a pair of thick socks in vinegar and put them on our feet. She would then cover the wet ones with a pair of thick Bosnian handmade wool slippers-socks. Tucked in.

Cough

- Parchment or newspaper thickly coated with lard, laid on our chests. Tucked in.

- Primrose tisane

Crying baby

- Chamomile tea, sometimes with milk.

Flu

- Raw garlic. Lots of it.

Worms (yes, this we did have)

- Grind pumpkin seeds, raw garlic, corriander seed. Ingest.

Minor cuts

- Apply propolis tincture — a bee product my dad still swears by

Constipation

- Yogurt or

- Raw, cold milk

Ear infection

- Few drops of expressed juice of a succulent plant Common Houseleek, into the ear or

- A drop of olive oil

Diaper rash

- Fish oil pomade

Stomach pain

- Few drops of propolis tincture in warm water

Hey, at least the crying baby problem wasn’t solved by a dip of the duda in whiskey or some such.
Honestly though, most of these home remedies are good provided they’re based on some kind of herb usage. It’s better than having a bunch of man-made chemicals that cause more damage than they fix.
Remedies survive with the people who survive because of them.

That was a wise word brought by your little sister, sponsored by PBS and The Discovery Channel (but not directly influenced by them.)

That fall and the untreated fever do explain things. Also, don’t forget about the neti naughty pot for sinus and other respiratory issues, and even ear aches b/c of the ENT system. Let me know what you come up with regarding the vaccines! I’m very interested in what conclusions your info session comes up with. Looking good, my love. Sometimes that belly is so apart of you, but other times it looks stuck on. Pretty soon, it won’t be there anymore at all! Can’t wait to meet my new friend!
